At a Board meeting held at the office of the Association of Oil Marketing Companies (AOMC) on 27 July 2021, members of the Board overwhelmingly elected Felix Gyekye, Managing Director of Glory Oil Company Limited as the New Board Chairman. He takes over from Henry Ofori Akwaboah, MD of Engen who is resigning from his position and the petroleum downstream industry altogether.

The outgoing chairman in his final remarks expressed gratitude to his colleague members for the vote of confidence to elect him as chairman of the AOMC Board. “Let me begin by expressing my profound gratitude to you all for the privilege to serve as Board chairman. Indeed, I truly feel that despite my tenure has been brief, it has been fulfilling and given me valuable industry experiences which I will take along with me. The collaborative efforts of this group have culminated into the successes chalked over the period”. He highlighted a few of his successes as follows.

  • Institution of an In-house Disciplinary Committee to address OMC-Dealer related issues as well as adjudication of illegal practices.
  • Championing of the sanitization of the Petroleum Downstream Industry
  • Improvement of the Conditions of Service of the AOMC Secretariat for staff retention and attract competent personnel.
  • Deepening the AOMC Membership Participation with Regular Meetings and broadened committees in a unification agenda
  • Initiated a New AOMC Membership Entry Criteria to boost credibility as a respected and dignified Association constantly adding value to the petroleum downstream industry.

Mr. Akwaboah congratulated the industry coordinator, Mr. Kwaku Agyemang-Duah for the passionate support to ensure the realization of the set objectives of the board. He expressed confidence in his successor to continue to steer the Association to higher heights while projecting its credibility to the benefit of all members, stakeholders, and the country.

The New Board Chairman, Felix Gyekye on his part thanked the members of the Board on his election and reiterated his commitment to work in the collective interest of all members of the Association. He added that the industry is currently plagued with issues and in collaborative consultation with the Board, the Industry Coordinator, National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), and all other relevant stakeholders, he will ensure that the individual OMC & LPGMC businesses grow, while inculcating the continuous corporate citizenship responsibility on members to ensure prompt taxes and levies payment as well as adherence to industry ethics and standards.
